Adoption Info:

Bonnie is an adorable female toy poodle weighing about six pounds and about five years old.   She will be ready for a permanent home in the next few weeks.  Bonnie is sweet and gentle and quiet.  She is a snuggler and will stay with you watching TV for hours, but can be left alone.   Really nice little dog.

Parker is a darling young Chiweenie.  He is really sweet and frightened of this great big world.  It is simply a tradgedy that a dog this young should be anywhere near the shelter system.  Parker is good with other animals along as they are gentle with him.  Parker is available for immediate adoption.  He is neutered, microchipped and current on all vaccines.

This is Jeff a tiny Chi mix.  He is cute and fun.  Jeff is a nice little dog that gets along with others.  Every year 5,000 Chihuahuas make their way in to the the LA Shelter system  and most don't make it out.  Jeff was a cell mate with Mutt (see below)- we didn't have the heart to  make the decision to have Jeff put down just because he was a Chihuahua and the shelters have zillions of dogs just like him.  We love him and are determined to find him a home!

This is Mutt.  A tiny terrier mix that is spunky and fun; loves a little bit of trouble.  He is probably a year or so old.  Mutt is a ton of fun - loves toys and attention.  This is a dog that has way too much personality; there is nothing like a terrier!

Special note - while this dog does look like another dog in our care called "Clark" they are two separate dogs.   This one is younger and more active.

Bruester is a 3 month old male Chihuahua puppy.  He has already spent 3 weeks of his short little life at a shelter.  He is very shy but loves to be held.  He is very quiet but loves other dogs.  Bruester is neutered and microchipped - current on vaccines although he will need a rabies vaccine once he is a little older.

This is Carly - a two year old miniature schnauzer whose rear right leg was crushed in a bad accident.  Her leg was amputated and she will be just fine running around on three legs.
This is Clark, a small scruffy terrier probably about 10 pounds and about 7 years old.

Clark is a fabulous dog.  He is quiet and potty trained.  He will play with toys and other dogs, and also will sit quietly and be held.

He meets everyone, dog or human, in a gentle and friendly manner.

Clark was initially rescued from the Downey shelter in 2004.   Unfortunately his owner didn't keep his Avid microchip information current and when he got lost in Mission Viejo there was no way for him to find his way home.   Our information was with Avid as a back-up and now after 7 years we have him back.   A microchip does no good if the company, usually Avid or Home Again, doesn't have the petowner's current information.  A shame.  This is a super great little dog.   Someone must be missing him.

Spencer is our latest rescue for the Long Beach Shelter.  This is a picture of him from the first day in his foster home.  We are desperate for foster homes as well as permanent homes.  Each year in LA County alone nearly 5,000 Chihuahuas entered the city shelter system - Spencer is one of the lucky ones to make it out.  Chihuahuas are a little dog but their overpopulation is a huge crisis.  Spencer has been awesome - he immediately loved the new foster homes dog and as you can see is appreciative of a nice soft bed.  Please consider adopting a Chi!

p.s. - based on my own personal observation, Spencer is a min pin (miniature pinscher) and not a Chihuahua.  But I could be wrong.  Carolyn

Meet Penelope a tiny little female Chihuahua.  Penelope was brought in to the Long Beach shelter after being hit by a car. Sadly she had to have surgery to remove her eye.  Thanks to generous donations from private individuals and Petco Foundation, our group was able to provide the funds required for her surgery.  Thanks to Dr. Boctor of The Heights Veterinary Hospital and to Lindsey Taylor of Long Beach Animal Care Services who kindly offered to foster Penelope during her recovery.

Ritz is a tiny female Chihuahua/min pin mix.  She is probably a year old and more than likely has never had a loving home.  She is going to need a lot of socialization and love.  Our shelters are full of Chihuahuas, they are a lovely breed there simply is just too many of them looking for homes.  Please consider a Chi as your next dog.  Ritz is currently at the Long Beach Animal Shelter but we hope to find her a foster or permanent home soon.

Adoption Pending - Moppett is a tiny little 8 pound female Poodle Shih-tsu mix.  She was taken in by strangers who found her frightened, alone, matted and full of fleas.  They took her to their Vet and groomer and from there researched finding a rescue group.  This little girl sat at the Long Beach Shelter patiently waiting for her previous owners to come (a legal requirement) and when they didn't our rescue group stepped in to save her from being put to sleep.  Like many other dogs and cats irresponsible people simply don't bother looking for their animals, nor do they microchip, vaccinate, or put tags on their pets.  Moppet has decided to turn over a new leaf and find a home that appreciates her.  She is approximately 7 years old and unfortunately has visual impairment in one eye, she is blind in the other (common in poodles).  She has probably had a few litters of puppies in her difficult little life.  With all of this sorrow she remains a little trooper; she loves to go on walks and has no trouble navigating new places.  She climbs stairs and has fun romping with other dogs.  Moppett is currently fostered with the kind ladies that saved her from a certain demise.  For more information simply email us or contact Louise at 562-897-5282

Tyler has been in our care for a long time and this is a shame because he's a perfect dog.
MFP seeking FH. (Male French Poodle Seeking Forever Home)

Me: Friendly white male miniature French poodle
weighing in at about 14 lbs. Love to
play, go for walks, ride in the car.
Totally crate trained; equally happy hanging out
in the yard or in my crate. Get along with other
dogs, but would enjoy being "King du Maison."
My shelter paperwork says I am a "senior," but my
rescuer thinks I am closer to between 5 and 8, so
have loootts of time left to give someone lots of loving.

You: Looking for a great canine companion. Maybe an
active senior? Home more than not would be great
but isn't absolutely necessary.
If you think I'm the guy for you, please call my
foster mom, Ellen, at 310 365 2369.
