Sally - 1/5/2001

1/3/2001 - Hi everyone,
Never dreamed a photo expedition at one of the shelters would put me in a situation where I couldn't even close
my eyes last night. Foster is taken care of (me), but any other help
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Nancy
Please take a look.
She was found tied to a tree - left to starve.
Nancy is our shelter scout for San Gabriel, Seaaca, and Santa Ana. She found this dog while on her rounds, and felt compelled to do something. She has bailed out the dog and it is now part of
Cuddly Canines
Rescue. |

Update
|
|

Taking a small amount of food from my 11-yr-old's hand.
|
Sally
had a peaceful night & stood up for the first time today when I
brought 3 kids to visit with her......she even managed a few steps!
Although her insides & outsides are ravaged, the spark is in
her eyes! She tested negative for heartworm, but has a severe case
of whipworm & tapeworm.....the vet tech who gave her a warm bath
said the water was blood red....he had never seen such a bad infestation
of fleas. Her blood results show a severe infection.....several
tests on the panel had severe highs & lows. She is eating on
her own in very small increments & drinking water. These
photos were taken today at the vets office.

1/9/2001 - Update
|
|
Sally
is continuing to make progress, looking better every day. She has
gained 2 pounds since hospitalized, but is still fighting a severe
infection which may require surgery. We visited with her twice
today, taking her outside of the hospital this afternoon for a bit of
fresh air & a short walk. She is still very fearful of the
world, so we took her behind the hospital to a small patio where no
other people were around. She seemed very happy to be outside with
people who love her! Her blood tests will be repeated at the end of the
week, at which time we will be able to see how well she is doing. She
is being treated with love by all of the staff at Hacienda Animal
Hospital.

Update 1/12/2000 -
|
|

So far the vet bills have come to $1,500 and donations received have
come to $595, plus a pledge of $500 from Imom.org.
|
Sally
is no longer the "model" patient or the well-behaved lady she
was when first brought to the hospital. She is defiant about
taking her meds. She holds them in her throat, then shoots them
right out when the doc turns her back. We went to the hospital to
take her for a short walk around the office yesterday, but her warm
blanket had just come out of the dryer, so she wanted us to come in the
kennel to sit with her & looked at me with a "why should I come
out of here?" look! We got her out at the insistence of the
doc & she tried to pull us back in there with her. She is a teenager
with her own agenda & ideas! THIS IS WONDERFUL PROGRESS FOR
SALLY!!!
|

Sally was spayed Wednesday, as the vet discovered she had a severely
infected uterus. Thus the E-collar.

Update January 17 - WOW!
Look at Sally now |

Sally is now 30
pounds and spending her first night in a real home. Doesn't she
look great. You can click on this photo for a larger picture.
Look at those ears!!!
We want to thank www.Imom.org
for their support. Please visit their site and give them a
donation to help another dog in need. They do such wonderful work.
They have collected now $1,000 on Sally's behalf. We wish Sally's
story were unique and unusual. It is not. There are many
more who need your help. Imom is a wonderful organization.
