The dogs
and cats at this shelter basically only have three days for the owner to claim
them and then one day for adoption. This shelter is known to put many of the
animals to sleep - 90 % of them. Yet, there are so many adoptable dogs and
cats at this shelter never chosen to go home.

I-58 Freeway at the Mt. Vernon exit. You can see the shelter to the South from
the freeway.
Phone hours: 8 to 5, M, T, TH,
F, Sat, 11 to 8 W.
Adoption hours: 10 to 4, M, T, TH, F, Sat.
Wednesday: 2 to 7.
Adoption includes dog and spay/neuter fee. Procedure is: go
to the shelter and pay for the dog, then go back a few days later after the
animal is spayed or neutered. Shelter does not ship animals.

and doesn't have much of a chance of getting

shelter, but behind the chain link, he is scared. We
